Peter Welchering (2010)

Peter Welchering (* 1960 in Borken , Westphalia) is a German journalist and university lecturer at the Merz Academy in Stuttgart.

Career

After studying philosophy and theology, he worked as a technology and science journalist for radio and television from 1983. He was editor-in-chief of Computer Zeitung and Business Online for six years and helped set up the IndustrieNet online portal . Before that, he worked for several years as a volunteer trainer in specialist publishers, including c't . He then founded Media01, a production company for electronic media Cologne-Stuttgart and VoxMundi Medienanstalt GmbH Stuttgart. He writes and produces for Deutschlandfunk , SWR and ZDF , as well as for magazines and newspapers.

He teaches online / offline investigation at the Merz Academy in Stuttgart.

Welchering is a science journalist for, among others, CUT and the Deutschlandfunk program “ Forschung Aktuell” . He also works as a journalism and media trainer and teaches at journalism schools and academies. He is the founder of VoxMundi Medienanstalt based in Cologne, Stuttgart. He was a regular guest at Computer Club 2 .

Peter Welchering was chairman of the FDP city association and district chairman of the German Association of Journalists (DJV). In 2011 he was elected to the German Press Council, so he resigned from his political offices due to possible conflicts of interest. The term " Federal Trojan " comes from him . Among other things, he uncovered the data scandal with the file background during the accreditation debacle at the G20 summit in Hamburg and reported on it for the first time on July 22, 2017 on Deutschlandfunk. In March 2019, he reported on Deutschlandfunk about extensive research, according to which Facebook has its own intelligence service to monitor Facebook critics who are referred to as "opponents". The reporting leads to investigations by the Hamburg commissioner for data protection, which are still ongoing. Which ring is in the jury that awards the alternative media prize, as well as in the jury of the journalist prize for computer science.

In July 2019, Welchering resigned in protest against the behavior of the DJV top.

Peter Welchering has produced and edited numerous audio books. The audio books for industry, elaborate features and radio plays produced by his companies Media01 and VoxMundi Medienanstalt are used by well-known companies for product marketing and image PR. His audio book entitled “The Computer Weapons of Al Qaida” is available as MP3 on the Internet.
