The Archive for Conceptual History is an annual philosophical journal published by Christian Bermes (Koblenz-Landau), Hubertus Busche (Hagen) and Michael Erler (Würzburg). The editorial office of the magazine is based at the University of Koblenz-Landau ; it is published by Felix Meiner Verlag in Hamburg.

Subject of the magazine

The magazine was founded in 1955 by Erich Rothacker as the basis for a handbook in order to collect - according to the subtitle - building blocks for a historical dictionary of philosophy . This should be a successor to the now outdated 4th edition of Rudolf Eisler's dictionary of philosophical terms (1927–1930). Since there is now a number of conceptual-historical lexicons in addition to the historical dictionary of philosophy founded by Joachim Ritter in 1971 , for which the Archive for Conceptual History was preparing, its task has expanded both in terms of content and method over the course of the 50 years of its existence to become an interdisciplinary organ for the entire conceptual historical research .

The journal publishes papers on concepts from the history of philosophy and science, both from European and non-European traditions; to mythological and religious terms; on terms of general usage that have a characteristic meaning for an epoch or culture; to revealing metaphors; on the translation problem of terms as well as on the theory and criticism of the conceptual method.

Structure of the magazine

Each volume contains essays, mishaps as well as literature and research reports and ends with a term index and a bibliography on the latest literature on the history of terms. In addition to the annual volumes, special issues on narrowly defined topics of conceptual historical research are published every year.
