Christof Rapp

Christof Rapp (born December 30, 1964 in Rottweil ) is a German philosopher and historian of philosophy. Since October 2009 he has held the chair for Ancient Philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and director of the Center for Advanced Studies at this university.

Life

Christof Rapp studied philosophy, Greek, logic and philosophy of science at the universities of Tübingen and Munich. He received his doctorate in Munich in 1993 and completed his habilitation in Tübingen in 2000. From 2001 to 2009 Rapp was Professor of Ancient Philosophy at the Humboldt University in Berlin . He has held visiting professorships in Berkeley, Basel, Oxford and Paris. From 2001 to 2004 Rapp was chairman of the Society for Ancient Philosophy (GANPH) and from 2007 to 2009 spokesman for the Topoi Cluster of Excellence . He was the founding director of the Graduate School of Ancient Philosophy in Berlin and is currently one of the directors of the Munich School of Ancient Philosophy . From 2009 to 2015 he was co-editor of Phronesis magazine . A Journal for Ancient Philosophy . Together with Gerhard Ernst he is editor of the journal for philosophical research . Rapp has been a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina since 2010 . For 2018 he was awarded the Ausonius Prize of the University of Trier .

Rapp works primarily on topics related to ancient philosophy and its relationship to modern debates in metaphysics , ethics , action theory , argumentation theory and philosophy of mind .
