Hartmut Boehme

Hartmut Böhme (born May 5, 1944 in Beeskow ) is a German cultural and literary scholar.

Life

Hartmut Böhme, brother of the philosopher Gernot Böhme , studied German , philosophy , theology and education in Bonn until 1969 after graduating from high school . He then worked as a trainee lawyer at schools in Hamburg. From 1971 he worked as a research assistant to Karl Ludwig Schneider (literary studies) at the University of Hamburg . In 1973 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . In 1988 he qualified as a professor for cultural and literary history at the University of Bremen. From 1977 to 1993 he was Professor of Modern German Literature at the University of Hamburg. Since 1993 he has been researching and teaching as a professor for cultural theory and the history of mentality at the Institute for Cultural Studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Since 2005 he has been the spokesman of the DFG special research area Transformations of Antiquity . He was visiting professor at various universities in the USA and Japan as well as a fellow at the International College for Research on Cultural Technology and Media Philosophy in Weimar and at the Institute for Cultural Studies in Essen . From 1985 to 2012 he was project manager of various DFG projects.

His main research interests include: cultural history since ancient times; Cultural theory; Literary history from the 18th to the 20th century; Natural and technological history in the overlapping fields of philosophy, art and literature; historical anthropology and psychohistory; Theory and history of fetishism; Science and visual history.
