Franz-Theo Gottwald

Franz-Theo Gottwald (born September 21, 1955 in Wiesbaden ) is a German corporate and political consultant, foundation expert , publicist and author of specialist publications in the areas of ethics, sustainable development, corporate responsibility , ecological agricultural and nutritional culture, awareness and future research.

Life

Gottwald studied Catholic theology , philosophy , social sciences and Indology . He put his focus on questions of social and natural philosophy and dealt with system theories. He then did several research stays in Thailand, India and the Philippines, where he studied structural changes in rural areas and dealt with the understanding of nature of different faith communities.

In 1984 he started working for the management consultancy Schirmer und Partner (Worpswede) as a consultant specializing in environmental management and systemic organizational development. Among other things, he initially looked after customers from the financial industry and the automotive supplier industry with tools for self and awareness management.

In 1985 he was involved in the conception of the foundation's philosophy in the “future project ecological conversions” of the meat industrialist Karl Ludwig Schweisfurth . After initially advising on the development of the science management of the Schweisfurth Foundation , he took over as scientific director in 1986. Two years later he was appointed sole managing director of the Schweisfurth Foundation in Munich. His project work included development projects such as As the project Chamokoko Porterito Schweisfurth Foundation in Paraguay, in which an ecological village was built with self-supporting economic cycles from 1987 to 1989. Furthermore, the establishment of professorships at German universities. Problems at the interfaces between environmental protection, animal welfare and consumer protection were always dealt with holistically. According to the Schweisfurth Foundation, Gottwald contributed to the stabilization of organic farming as a systematic alternative and to a successful market design through the diverse funding of educational projects on sustainable nutrition, the food trade and an ecologically compatible lifestyle.

With the organization Support Africa International he was able to manage the Research Award for Sustainable Agriculture from 2000 to 2008. With the Songtsen Library Dehradun, environmental education seminars have been held in northern India since 2003.

Gottwald researches and teaches as an honorary professor for bio- and environmental ethics at the Agricultural-Horticultural Faculty of the Humboldt University Berlin and as a lecturer for political ecology at the University of Politics in Munich from 1998 to 2017. From 2004 to 2010 he was a regular visiting professor at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences engaged in the fields of “Stakeholder Management and Business Governance” and “Sustainability Value Management”.

Since 2008 he has been running the Cocreatio Foundation for cooperation research and collective development in Berg near Munich on a voluntary basis. This foundation deals with the possibilities of cooperation management in building communities and organizations that work culturally and creatively on solidarity futures.

In 2014 he was appointed to the board of the Renate Benthlin Foundation for Farm Animal Protection and reappointed in 2019 until 2024.

Gottwald is on the editorial board of the magazine for environmental policy and environmental law (since 2003) and member of the board of trustees of the Selbach Environmental Foundation, Munich (since it was founded in 2005). His work as a founding member and chairman of the Association of Culinary Heritage Bavaria eV, Munich (since 2010) serves the cultural basis of a regional food industry.

Since 2010 he has been a member of the advisory board of the World Future Council, Hamburg, for the rights of future generations. Since 2018 he has headed their supervisory board. In 2017 he was appointed to the Scientific Board of Trustees of the Senate of the Economy, Institute for Politics Oriented to the Common Good, Bonn / Berlin.

Gottwald was Deputy Chairman of the Bavarian Consumer Commission at the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection from 2009 to 2013, and then its Chairman from 2014 to 2018; It is there that he is also involved in the Expert Council on Food Safety. He works with the competence center for nutrition in Bavaria, KErn, z. B. in the development of future scenarios for the food industry. He was also involved in the green paper process (2016) of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and led the church dialogues.
