Ruth Tesmar

Ruth Tesmar (born April 8, 1951 in Potsdam ) is a German artist and university professor.

Career

Tesmar studied art education and history at the Humboldt University in Berlin . After completing his doctorate in 1981, he studied painting and graphics at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art . In 1983 Dieter looked after Goltzschethe diploma thesis in which Tesmar dealt artistically and theoretically with the subject of "book illustration". From then on, dealing with literature and writers had a decisive influence on Tesmar's artistic work. Accordingly, she has worked on publication projects as an author and illustrator. The process of writing itself was often reflected artistically. As an artistic professor, Ruth Tesmar headed the "Menzel-Dach" (seminar for artistic and aesthetic practice) at the Humboldt University in Berlin between 1993 and 2015.

In the course of the restructuring of the Humboldt University after the reunification of Germany, the seminar for artistic and aesthetic practice was re-established in 1992 under the title "Menzel roof". "Tesmar headed the" Menzel roof "from its foundation until her retirement in 2015.

Awards

In 1986 the book " Die Frau ohne Schatten " (Kiepenheuer Verlag Leipzig 1988), illustrated by Tesmar, was awarded the title "Most Beautiful Book". In the same year she was awarded the "1st Prize for Graphics" as part of the exhibition "100 selected graphics" for her colored wood prints on Else Lasker-Schüler . In 1993 the school book "Augenreise I", developed and illustrated by Tesmar and her husband Lutz Tesmar (Volk und Wissen Verlag GmbH Berlin), was recognized as the "Most Beautiful Book".
