Background (broadcast)

The background is a political analysis broadcast on Deutschlandfunk . Particularly relevant economic and social developments as well as socio-political and cultural debates from home and abroad are dealt with.

history

The background department belonged to the Deutschlandradio Kultur division and consisted of the domestic politics and foreign / European politics editors, to which twelve editors belonged. From 1996 to 2007 Rolf Clement was head of the department. As of 2017, the background is being designed by the editorial team of the same name, whose ten editors, under the direction of Ursula Welter, also create numerous other classifying and assessing programs on Deutschlandfunk.

The background is broadcast daily from 6:40 p.m. to 7 p.m. Contributions are also on the website of the program for direct download and as a podcast - Feed offered.

The editorial team was awarded the beacon for special journalistic achievements by the journalists' association Netzwerk Recherche in 2006 . The prize is awarded for “exceptional research that is of great importance for public discourse”.
