Helmut Sontag Prize

The Helmut Sontag Prize is a journalist prize that was founded in 1987 by the German Library Association (DBV) and has been announced annually since 2010 together with the Scientific Book Society (WBG) . The aim of the award is to draw the public's attention to the achievements of the library system. The award honors journalists from all media who “convey a contemporary image of libraries, their environment and the developments that influence them”. It is endowed with 5000 euros.

The prize is named after Helmut Sontag (1934–1988), the longstanding chairman of the DBV and head of the university library of the Technical University of Berlin .
