Helmut Sontag

Helmut Sontag (born February 19, 1934 in Erfurt , † May 10, 1988 in Berlin ) was a German librarian .

Sontag studied industrial engineering at the TU Berlin and graduated in 1959 with the title "Diplom.-Ing." He then became an assistant at the Institute of Economics at the TU Berlin, where he was responsible for its specialist library, among other things.

In 1967 Sontag began a legal traineeship for the higher library service. In 1975 he was appointed head of the university library of the TU Berlin. There he had long been known as a committed librarian and colleague and that is why he was elected chairman of the Association of German Librarians (VDB) that same year .

Between 1981 and 1983 Sontag was the responsible representative of the university library in the German Library Association (DBV). He then acted as a member of the board of directors of the DBV and from 1983 to 1986 also as its board member. In addition, Sontag was instrumental in founding the Federal Association of German Library Associations (BDB).

In order to create an honorable memory of Sunday 's work and creation, the DBV named its Publicist Prize after him from 1989 : Helmut Sontag Prize .
