Library & Information Germany

Library & Information Germany is an association of associations from the library and information sector in Germany. It is based in Berlin and forms the interdisciplinary umbrella organization to represent the interests of library-related associations and institutions.

On Libraries Day, Bibliothek & Information Deutschland awards the Karl Preusker Medal every year .

With Library & Information International , a permanent commission has existed since 2000 to promote international specialist exchange with scholarship programs. It promotes specialist stays, study trips and conference visits to support international cooperation, the exchange of experience and personal encounters between library and information specialists from home and abroad. The partner country program and the “Librarian in Residence” project are additional priorities for promoting intercultural exchange. The commission is composed of representatives of the member associations. Partners are the Goethe Institute and the German National Library .

history

The association goes back to a cooperation agreement between the library associations of the Federal Republic of Germany in Marburg ("Marburg Conference"). Until the German Society for Information Science and Information Practice joined in 2004, the association was called the Federal Association of German Library Associations . In 2012 the DGI left the association again, and in 2013 the Bertelsmann Foundation left the association.
