Irmela Brender
Irmela Brender , later also Irmela Eisenhardt-Brender (born April 20, 1935 as Irmela Gütle in Mannheim ; † March 1, 2017 in Sindelfingen ) was a German writer and translator .
Life
After attending grammar school in Mannheim and spending one year as an exchange student in the United States, Irmela Brender completed an internship at a daily newspaper. She then worked as a journalist for the press and radio as well as an editor in a youth book publisher. At Süddeutscher Rundfunk , she and Johannes Lehmann presented the program “ Bücherbar” on SDR 1 on Sunday evenings for many years . From 1970 she was a freelance writer. Brender lived in Sindelfingen .
Irmela Brender was the author of novels , short stories and poems for children and young people. She was also a translator of narrative works from English .
Irmela Brender was a member of the Association of German Writers , the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ, and the PEN Center Germany .
In 1980 she received the Literature Prize of the City of Stuttgart , in 1989 the Helmut Sontag Prize of the German Library Association and in 1992 the Wieland Gold Medal of the City of Biberach .
