Freelancer

In some cases, the term freelancer is used more extensively and then also includes services that do not arise from any creative process (e.g. independent teachers , masseurs , pastors , etc.). This is due to the fact that the concept of a work contract generally also includes self-contained concrete services of an immaterial nature (a teaching unit, a massage session, a support conversation).
All these activities have in common that a freelancer works with his own materials and tools and in his own premises (or outside of the house) and in particular at his own economic risk. In order for freelancers to be able to employ workers themselves, they have to set up a company and often also register a trade (except in the case of freelancers, who enjoy freedom of trade per se in Germany).
In general, the term “free creation” is not a legal term, but it is very common among individual professional groups, for example artists or architects . Many of these occupations fall under the so-called liberal professions , the freelancers in question are therefore considered freelancers and can take advantage of the associated legal advantages (for example, exemption from compulsory trade). However, there are also professions that do not fall under this legally defined legal term in Germany, but in which one can nonetheless work as a freelance, especially in the craft and freelance sectors, for example as a scissors grinder , podiatrist , provenance researcher , private detective or cleaning worker .
In Austria , freelancers almost always fall under the term freelancer or new self-employment .
