Ben Bova

Ben Bova (1974)

Benjamin William Bova (* 8. November 1932 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ; † 29. November 2020 ) was an American science fiction - author .

Life

Ben Bova studied journalism , was the editor of several space magazines and became the marketing manager of a research laboratory. He also worked on the US space program.

In 1972, Bova became editor of Analog Science Fiction and Fact magazine after his predecessor, John W. Campbell, died. He switched to the new Omni magazine in 1978 and stayed there until 1982. He received the Hugo Award six times for his services as editor .

In addition to these activities, he wrote novels and short stories for science fiction magazines. In the German-speaking world, he was best known for his series The Grand Tour , including the novels Mars , Venus , Jupiter and Saturn .

He was president of the National Space Society and chairman of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA). He earned a Doctor of Education degree from California Coast University in 1996 .

Ben Bova received the Campbell Award in 2007 for the novel Titan . In 2008 he received the Robert A. Heinlein Award for his work in the field of science fiction.

Ben Bova died at the age of 88 of COVID-19- related complications.
