Friedel True

Friedel Wahren (born March 23, 1941 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German publisher of science fiction and fantasy . She worked as editor-in-chief and lecturer in the science fiction department of Heyne Verlag in Munich .

Life

After studying German , art history , classical archeology and folklore , Wahren worked as an editor at the Große Brockhaus encyclopedia and editor-in-chief of the comic magazine Fix und Foxi published by the Munich publishing house Kauka . From 1976, together with Wolfgang Jeschke , she was in charge of the Heyne Science-Fiction & Fantasy series by Heyne Verlag, where she was responsible in particular for the fantasy titles. She also took over the publication of the anthology series Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine from Birgit Reß-Bohusch from volume 15 onwards . She edited a total of 38 volumes in which, in addition to a selection of short stories from the American edition, German authors also regularly appeared. She also worked in this area for Piper Verlag. Together with Erik Simon she was the editor of several Fantastic Anthologies. In 2006 Wahren retired. In 2009 she was awarded the German Fantasy Prize “for promoting sophisticated fantasy and new talents as long-time editor of the fantasy series of the publishers Heyne and Piper” . She lives in Munich.
