Joe Haldeman (* 9. June 1943 in Oklahoma City ) is an American science fiction - author .

Life

Haldeman studied physics , astronomy , math, and computer science at the University of Maryland . In 1967 he was drafted to Vietnam for military service. Through his experiences in Vietnam, he became his most famous novel The Forever War inspired (The Forever War), for which he received the Hugo Award , the Nebula Award and the Locus Award received. He later worked out the Eternal War into a trilogy ( The Eternal Peace , At the end of the war ), the second volume of which also received both the Hugo and the Nebula Award. Also known is his Worlds Trilogy, which includes Circling Worlds , Isolated Worlds and Worlds Enough and Time .
His 1993 novel Graves received the World Fantasy Award and the 2004 novel Camouflage received the Nebula Award and the James Tiptree, Jr. Award . He was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2012.

Numerous collections of short stories are added to his novels, including Infinite Dreams .

Haldeman currently teaches writing and science fiction at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

His older brother, Jack C. Haldeman II , who died in 2002, was also a science fiction writer.
