World Fantasy Award
The World Fantasy Award is a literary prize that has been awarded annually since 1975 at the World Fantasy Convention , an annual meeting of collectors and those professionally or otherwise interested in art or literature from the field of light and dark fantasy, which takes place around the beginning of November, for outstanding achievements the field of fantasy is awarded. The number of members participating in the event is limited to 850.
Until 2015, the prize trophy was a bust of HP Lovecraft designed by Gahan Wilson . The award was therefore occasionally referred to as the HP Lovecraft Award , not to be confused with the Howie Award given at the HP Lovecraft Film Festival . After a discussion about Lovecraft's racism, the statuette has since represented a leafless tree in front of the full moon.
Works from the field of fantasy that have been nominated within the nomination period are awarded; Works can be nominated within one year of their publication.
For the World Fantasy Award, the year in which the award was given is used for the award ceremony.
