Tobias S. Buckell (born January 2, 1979 in Grenada ) is a science fiction writer. His novel Halo: The Cole Protocol , which is based on the Halo game series , made it onto the New York Times bestseller list in 2008 . He currently lives in Bluffton , Ohio .

life and work

Buckell grew up on a boat and moved to the United States . Buckell attended the Clarion Science Fiction Writers' Workshop in 1999 , a course for aspiring writers founded by Robin Scott Wilson . Not long after the workshop was over, he sold his first short story Fish Merchant to Science Fiction Age magazine for its March 2000 issue. His next short stories were then published in a number of anthologies.

He published his first novel, Kristallregen , in 2006. His second novel, Streuner, was nominated for the 2007 Nebula Award . The Tangled Lands collection, written together with Paolo Bacigalupi , won the World Fantasy Award in 2019 .

In 2008 he donated his archives to the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections at Northern Illinois University . In the same year he was announced as the author of the sixth part of the Halo series , to which he contributed Halo: The Cole Protocol (named after a military protocol that is supposed to prevent critical information such as the position of the earth from being communicated to opponents ). He then took part in the collection of short stories Halo Evolutions - Short Stories from the Halo Universe , on which Karen Traviss and Eric Nylund worked, among others .

Buckell says he suffers from dyslexia .
