Ken Scholes (born January 13, 1968 in Washington state ) is an American science fiction and fantasy author. He is best known for his fantasy cycle Psalms of Isaac about a post apocalyptic world, which is published in Germany under the name Die Legende von Isaak by Blanvalet Verlag .

Life

He describes himself as a “trailer boy”, in other words a “trailer boy”, referring to the living conditions of his youth in a trailer settlement at the foot of Mount Rainier . As a 13-year-old, after reading Ray Bradbury's How to Keep and Feed a Muse , he dreamed of becoming a writer. He was encouraged by an English teacher and his mother, who had given him a small typewriter that was first rejected when he was around 15 years old. After his military service in Germany and a history degree at Western Washington University , he worked as a seaman, preacher, armorer and independent sales representative. It wasn't until his late twenties that he turned back to writing after a satisfying literature workshop with the publisher and editor of Fairwood Press and Talebones, Patrick Swenson. He sold his first short story in 2000.

The short story Into the Blank Where Life is Hurled won third place in the fourth quarter of the 2005 Writers of the Future competition. His first novel Lamentation was published - encouraged by his friend Jay Lake and his own wife Jen - in 2009 and was based on a previous short story called Of Metal Men and Scarlet Thread and Dancing with the Sunrise . Lamentation was to be the first part of a five-volume series with the English title Psalms of Isaak , in German Legende von Isaak .

Every Saturday he posts a column on the technique of writing on genreality.net. His works have so far been partially translated into German and French .

Ken Scholes lives with his wife, Jen West Scholes, and their twins in St. Helens near Portland , Oregon . Both parents share the upbringing of the two daughters, so that Scholes says he starts his literary work regularly at 3:30 p.m. Scholes jokingly referred to his close friend and science fiction writer Jay Lake as a twin brother separated at birth because of the physical and character similarities.
