Zdzisław Wrona (born January 12, 1962 in Pustków Wilczkowski , Lower Silesian Voivodeship , Poland ) is a former Polish cyclist.

Athletic career

Zdzisław Wrona grew up on a farm in the village of Pustków Wilczkowski near Breslau ; he had six siblings. One of his brothers, Marek , later also became a successful cyclist (1989 winner of the Tour of Poland ), two other brothers decided to play football . In 1976 Zdzisław Wrona became a member of BKS Sobótka and began regular training in Sobótka, twelve kilometers away, while continuing to work on his parents' farm. "The training started with the drive there," he later recalled. He later moved to the Moto Jelcz Olawa club .

In the late 1970s, Wrona won the youth Spartakiad and became Polish mountain champion. In 1986 and 1987 he started in the International Peace Tour, in 1986 he won the seventh stage from Gorzów to Szczecin , beating the German Olaf Ludwig . In the same year he was third in the Tour du Loir-et-Cher . In 1988 he took part in the road race of the Olympic Games in Seoul and finished 17th. In 1992 he was second in Paris – Troyes . At the local Szlakiem Grodów Piastowskich cycle race , he is the record holder with three victories, together with Marek Rutkiewicz ( as of 2018 ).

After finishing his cycling career, Zdzisław Wrona opened a bicycle shop with a workshop in Jelcz-Laskowice ( as of 2015 ).
