Roman Chtiej

Roman Chtiej (born January 21, 1941 in Guesnain ) is a former Polish cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Roman Chtiej (later René Chtiej) was born into a family of Polish immigrants in France , but returned to Poland as a child.

In 1961 (before Stanislaw Gazda ) and 1963 he was Polish road racing champion , with the champion being determined in three separate races in 1961, with Chtiej winning the championship as the driver with the highest number of points. In 1962 he also won the title in the individual time trial . In 1961 he won the first staging of the Małopolskiego Wyścigu Górskiego stage race and won bronze in the championship on the track in the individual pursuit . He retired from the race at the International Peace Tour in 1963 . In 1963 he drove the UCI road world championships and was 5th in the team time trial with the Polish four . In the individual race he was eliminated.

In 1964 he returned to France, where he took the name René and drove as a professional driver in the teams Terrot-Leroux ( Belgium , 1964) and Pelforth-Sauvage-Lejeune (France, 1966–1968). He won the Circuit Franco-Belge race in 1966. In 1968 he started at the Vuelta a España , but retired from the tour
