Józef Kapiak

Józef Kapiak (born October 1914 in Warsaw ; † June 21, 1989 ) was a Polish cyclist and Polish cycling champion .

Athletic career

Kapiak began his career in his hometown. Over the years he started for the Warsaw clubs Orlęta Warszawa, RKS Prąd Warszawa, Warszawianka and Jur Warsaw.
In 1938 and 1939 he became a Polish mountain champion. After the Second World War he was able to win this title again in 1948. In 1937 and 1938 he represented Poland at the UCI Road World Championships . At the age of 37, he finally won the Polish road racing championship for the second time, having been victorious in 1938. Three titles in the team time trial (1947, 1948, 1951) with different clubs complemented his national palmares. He took part in the International Peace Tour three times; third place in 1948 on the route from Prague to Warsaw was his best result.

Professional

After finishing his sports career, he worked as a trainer at Legia Warsaw and trained, among others, Stanisław Królak and Andrzej Trochanowski .

Familiar

He was the younger brother of Mieczysław Kapiak , who was also a cyclist and had participated in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin .
