The 40th International Peace Tour (Course de la paix) was a cycling race that took place from May 8th to 23rd, 1987.

The 40th edition of the International Peace Tour consisted of 14 individual stages and led over a total length of 1987 km from East Berlin via Prague to Warsaw . The team winner was the GDR . The best mountain driver was Uwe Ampler from the GDR.

Klaus Ampler had won the Peace Tour 24 years earlier . This year his son Uwe Ampler won . He also won the individual time trial in Harrachov, which ended at the ski jumping hill table. Most of the riders pushed or carried their bikes up the 30% steep driveway.

A total of 156 drivers from 26 nations were at the start. Participating nations were:
