Overall winner: Erich Hagen (GDR)

The 13th International Peace Tour (Course de la paix) was a cycling race that was held from May 2nd to 16th, 1960.

The tour consisted of 13 individual stages and led over a total length of 2290 kilometers from Prague via Warsaw to East Berlin . Berlin was the destination for the first time. The individual ranking was won by Erich Hagen from the GDR , the team ranking was also won by the GDR. The best climber was Gainan Saidchushin ( Soviet Union ). 120 drivers started in Prague, 85 of whom reached the finish in East Berlin.

Attendees

20 countries had registered for the 13th Peace Tour, after 1956 Norway had sent a team again, and after 1958 Austria was there again.

The following six athletes were nominated by the German Cycling Association of the GDR :

Weißleder had joined the team for Günter Lörke , who was sick .

Race course

The race was all about the GDR team. The GDR drivers won ten of the thirteen stages, with substitute Weißleder alone four times in the lead in the daily standings. Last year's winner Schur, this time only 16th in the final ranking, and Erich Hagen were two stage winners. There were only GDR drivers in yellow jerseys and the GDR athletes wore the blue jersey of the team competition from the first to the last stage. The fight for the individual victory remained exciting until the end. Before the 13th and final stage, the leader Adler was only 38 seconds ahead of his team-mate Hagen and one minute ahead of the Belgian Jean Bapstiste Claes. Adler lost over eight minutes in a fall, but at the mass arrival in Berlin, Hagen was the first to sprint across the finish line and thus saved the GDR's individual victory.
