Remig Stumpf (born March 25, 1966 in Schweinfurt ; † May 14, 2019 in Bergrheinfeld ) was a German racing cyclist .
Athletic career
Stumpf, who started for the RSG Nürnberg , was one of the best German road racing drivers of the 1980s. He was already successful in the youth and junior classes. In 1986 he won, still as an amateur , Rund um Köln , Rund um Düren and the Berlin stage trip . In 1987 he took part in the Peace Tour starting in Berlin and won the 13th stage. In the overall individual ranking he finished 38th. In 1987 and 1988 he was German champion in the individual time trial . In 1987 and 1988 he won the International Ernst Sachs Tour . In 1988 Remig Stumpf started at the Olympic Games in Seoul in the individual road race (14th place) and in the team time trial , but without winning a medal.
He then became a professional with the French cycling team Toshiba . In the 1989 Tour de Suisse , Stumpf won the fifth stage. In total, he won eight races on the international calendar as a professional. In 1991 and 1992 he took part in the Tour de France , but both times did not arrive in Paris . He also drove six days and won twice in Cologne , in 1992 with Bruno Holenweger and in 1993 with Urs Freuler .
In 1993 Stumpf ended his active cycling career. He then played American football and then took over a restaurant in Schweinfurt.
death
On May 14, 2019, Remig Stumpf and his wife Mirjam, who was separated from him and who was twelve years his junior, were found dead in a house in Bergrheinfeld. After the autopsy was completed, the investigators confirmed that Stumpf had killed his wife. Then he set a fire and suicide committed.
The couple had three children, and Stumpf also had a child from his first marriage.
