Valencia Tour

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tour of Valencia , also Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana , (until 2009 Vuelta a Valencia ) is a Spanish stage race for cyclists in the autonomous community of Valencia . The tour has been part of the UCI Europe Tour since 2005 and takes place every year in mid-February. It was classified in category 2.1.

There was no event in 2009 because the tense economic situation in Spain meant that no sponsors were available to support the event. The regional bank Bancaja had withdrawn as a former sponsor of the previous 29 competitions. Further attempts to bring the tour back to life, at least as part of the UCI Europe Tour 2011 , also failed due to the sponsorship question. The organizers then considered a new attempt for the 2012 season, but it was also unsuccessful.

In 2015, Ángel Casero and his brother Rafael made another attempt to revive the race with the help of sponsor commitments. The race will be held in category 2.1 of the UCI Europe Tour 2016 in February 2016.

The one-day race Vuelta a la Comunitat Valenciana Feminas (1.2) has been held as part of the tour since 2019 .
