Ion Izagirre Insausti , also Ion Izaguirre , Jon Izagirre or Jon Izaguirre , (born February 4, 1989 in Ormáiztegui , Basque Country ) is a Spanish cyclist . He is the younger brother of the cyclist Gorka Izagirre .

Career

Ion Izagirre joined the Basque Continental Team Orbea in 2009 and moved to the Basque ProTeam Euskaltel-Euskadi in 2011 . For this team he won a stage each in the Vuelta a Asturias and the Giro d'Italia in 2012 . After the dissolution of the Euskaltel team, Izagirre switched to the Movistar team in 2014 and won the Spanish road racing championships in the same year. In the 2015 season he took over the overall lead in the final individual time trial of the Tour of Poland and thus won the tour by just two seconds over runner-up Bart De Clercq . In 2016 he won a. a. the one-day race Gran Premio Miguel Induráin , a stage of the Tour de Suisse , the Spanish time trial championship and the mountainous 20th stage of the Tour de France after an attack on the finish line. In spring 2019, he won the overall ranking of the Tour of Valencia , a stage from Paris-Nice and, after a general attack 60 kilometers from the final stage, the overall ranking of the Tour of the Basque Country, ahead of Emanuel Buchmann, who had been the leader until then .
