Francisco Mancebo (born March 9, 1976 in Madrid ) is a Spanish cyclist .
Career
Mancebo is considered a strong mountain climber. His special feature is his crooked head position on the bike when he made great efforts, for example on difficult mountain stages.
Mancebo won the white jersey of the best young professional in the 2000 Tour de France in ninth place overall . In 2004 Mancebo became Spanish road champion. At the Tour de France 2005 he achieved his best result in the Tour of France with fourth place in the overall ranking - which was subsequently revised to third place in the overall ranking after Jan Ullrich's doping conviction in 2012. In the same year he achieved a stage victory at the Vuelta a España and also took third place overall.
Due to the suspicion that he was involved in the doping scandal Fuentes , he was excluded from the race one day before the start of the Tour de France 2006 and announced his retirement. Since his guilt could not be proven, no doping case was opened against him and he announced his resignation in 2007. The quote is said to come from him that, if the ethical code of the ProTeams were to be applied in its pure form, only ex-tour boss Jean-Marie Leblanc would be allowed to start. Since his comeback, Mancebo has only been riding for smaller cycling teams .
