Benoît Salmon (born May 9, 1974 in Dinan ) is a former French cyclist .

Cycling career

Benoît Salmon started his career at Collstrop in 1996 . He immediately finished eighth in the Tour de l'Avenir . The following season he moved to Lotto , where he was fourth at the Grand Prix Cholet-Pays de la Loire and ninth at the Flèche Wallonne . In 1998 he went to Casino and took part in the Tour de France for the first time . A year later he won the Midi Libre in the run-up to the tour .

On the tour itself he was 16th in the overall classification and secured the white jersey of the best young professional. After a rather unsuccessful year with the new sponsor Ag2r Prévoyance , in 2001 he once again made it to second place at the Midi Libre including a stage win and third at the Dauphiné Libéré .

In 2002 Salmon switched to the Swiss racing team Phonak . He finished fourth at the French championships in 2003 and third in 2004 after joining Crédit Agricole . Benoît Salmon has been driving for the French Professional Continental Team Agritubel since 2005 . His best result there was a third place overall at the Route du Sud 2005.

At the end of the 2008 season, Salmon ended his career.
