Team evaluation La Vie Claire

The 73rd Tour de France took place from July 4 to July 27, 1986 and ran over 23 stages or a total of 4094 km. With Greg LeMond , an American and a non-European in general celebrated a tour victory for the first time, after he had finished third on the 1984 tour and second in 1985 . A record number of 210 racers took part in the tour, of which 132 were classified.

Race course

The particular excitement of the race lay in the internal duel between team- mates Bernard Hinault and Greg LeMond from the French team La Vie Claire : Hinault won the previous Tour de France in 1985 thanks to a team order just before LeMond and thanks to the American Promised support for 1986. Nevertheless, Hinault attacked on the first mountain stage in the Pyrenees and took over the yellow jersey . LeMond returned the favor the next day with a stage win and was finally able to take the lead in the Alps. The 18th stage to L'Alpe d'Huez became legendary , in which the two drivers left the entire competition behind and crossed the finish line hand in hand.

Team La Vie Claire , which dominates in a unique way, achieved first and second place with LeMond and Hinault, and colleagues Andrew Hampsten and Niki Rüttimann came fourth and seventh overall. Team Telekom only achieved a similarly outstanding team performance at the 1996 Tour de France .
