List of Tour de France winners (material)

history

Since the Tour de France was first held , the bikes and components used in professional cycling have continued to develop. For example, the use of circuit components on the Tour of France was first permitted in 1937.

The origin of the individual bicycle manufacturers cannot always be clarified beyond doubt.

La Sportive's bikes go back to a merger of several bicycle manufacturers such as Alcyon, Armor, Automoto, Clément, La Française, Gladiator, Griffon, Hurtu, Labor, Liberator, Peugeot and Thomann after the First World War. The initiative should enable the individual manufacturers to survive. In 1922, La Sportive was dissolved and the manufacturers went their own way again.

From 1930 to 1939, Tour de France founder and organizer Henri Desgrange had the tour held as a race for national teams. The participants were all provided with the same material. The wheels were painted yellow and labeled with the sports newspaper L'Auto , which organized the race. The standard wheels were provided by the manufacturer Automobiles Alcyon .

Eddy Merckx's bikes, on the other hand, were designed and built, for example, by the Belgian bicycle manufacturer Ets Kessels SA from Ostend or the frame builder Faliero Masi. Nevertheless, the brand name Eddy Merckx was found on the frame. In addition, Faliero Masi made frames for Fausto Coppi , Louison Bobet , Felice Gimondi , Rik van Looy and Jacques Anquetil , which were painted and pasted in official sponsor colors.

The following table lists the materials (frames and components) used by the Tour de France winners since the tour was first held.
