Morteza Qoli Chān Hedāyat (also Morteza Qoli Khan Hedayat Sani-al Dowleh , * 1856 - February 6, 1911 ) was an Iranian politician, first President of the Iranian Parliament and Prime Minister of Iran.

Life

Morteza Qoli (Gholi) Chān Hedāyat was the son of Ali Qoli Chān Mochber-ol Dowleh Hedāyat. His brother Mehdi Qoli Chān Hedāyat was Prime Minister of Iran from 1927 to 1933. The Hedāyat family was one of the most politically influential families in the country. Morteza Qoli Chān Hedāyat Sani-al Dowleh worked under Mozaffar ad-Din Shah in the foreign service as Iranian ambassador to Germany, but returned to Iran at the beginning of the Constitutional Revolution and was elected President of the first Iranian parliament, elected in 1906. Sani-al Dowleh became prime minister for a month in 1908 and took over the post of finance minister in one of the subsequent cabinets. On February 6, 1911, he was murdered by two Georgians .
