Gustave Garrigou (born September 24, 1884 in Vabre-Tizac , † January 28, 1963 in Esbly ) was a French cyclist.

Career

Garrigou was active for the teams Peugeot (1907-1908; 1913-1914) and Alcyon (1909-1912). His greatest success was the overall victory of the Tour de France in 1911 , in which his rival Paul Duboc was weakened by a mysterious food poisoning. He started a total of eight times in the tour, finished it eight times and always placed in the top five. He was also the only rider in the peloton who climbed the Tourmalet without dismounting once. The First World War ended his career as a professional athlete in 1914. He was drafted as a soldier; after the war he worked as a merchant.

In 2011, the 100th anniversary of the Tour victory of Gustave Garrigou, this anniversary was especially celebrated during the 10th stage of the Tour de France 2011 in his hometown Vabre-Tizac.
