Charles Crupelandt (born October 23, 1886 in Wattrelos , † February 18, 1955 in Roubaix ) was a French cyclist .

Charles Crupelandt lived in Roubaix, the cycling track there was one of his favorite places even as a child, and he later said that he had spent his childhood there. He was one of the great French racing drivers from before the First World War . Twice - in 1912 and 1914 - Crupelandt won the Paris – Roubaix race , and in 1913 Paris – Tours .

He took part in the Tour de France three times . In 1910 he won the first stage and ended up sixth. In 1911 he won two stages, finishing fourth at the finish in Paris, and in 1912 he won the first stage. In 1914 he was also French road champion.

During the First World War , Crupelandt was awarded the Croix de guerre . After his return from the war, he was guilty of minor offenses, was convicted and thereupon excluded from the French cycling federation Union Vélocipédique de France (UVF) (this is suspected of being intrigues by competitors). Crupelandt then drove races for another French association and was French champion twice, albeit unofficially.

Charles Crupelandt died in 1955, blind and amputated on both sides. The last 300 meters before the Roubaix Velodrome are named after him "Espace Charles Crupelandt"; On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Crupelandt's victory at Paris-Roubaix in 1914, small marble tablets with the names of the previous winners were inserted between the paving stones there. Crupelandt is the only racing driver from Roubaix who achieved a "home win" in this classic.
