Regis Clère

Régis Clère (born August 15, 1956 in Langres , † June 9, 2012 in Dijon ) was a French cyclist .

Career

Clère started cycling in 1978, he was an all-rounder on track and road . As an amateur , he took part in the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow and finished 43rd in the road race.

As a professional , he became French championship points race and runner-up in the single pursuit in 1981 . At the 1981 Vuelta a España , Clère won a stage and wore the overall leader's jersey for nine days. In 1982 he became French road racing champion. Clère competed in the Tour de France six times : in 1982 he was named the most combative driver , in 1983 he won one and in 1987 two stages. He celebrated his last overall victory in 1987 at the Route du Sud . At the UCI track world championships in 1989 he was third in the single pursuit.

Régis Clère died on June 9, 2012 during heart surgery. He was the uncle of the cyclist Émilien Clère .
