Romain Bardet (born November 9, 1990 in Brioude ) is a French racing cyclist .
Career
After Bardet as a U23 driver a. a. finished sixth overall at the Tour de l'Avenir in 2010 and won a stage in 2011, he was awarded a contract with the UCI ProTeam Ag2r La Mondiale in 2012 . In his first year for this cycling team , he was fifth overall on the Tour of Turkey . On his first Grand Tour , the Tour de France 2013 , he immediately finished 15th. In August of the same year, Bardet won the overall ranking of the Tour de l'Ain . In March 2014, Bardet was victorious in the one-day Valence Drome Classic . Later in the season he scored top positions among UCI World Tour - stage race he was fourth in the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya and fifth in the Criterium du Dauphine . He also came in sixth overall at the 2014 Tour de France .
In the Tour de France 2015 he won the mountainous 18th stage to Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne as a soloist. He was ninth overall and received the red number on the back of the most combative driver of the tour. He achieved another Tour de France stage victory in 2016 when he climbed the 19th stage after an attack on the previous descent. In the overall standings, he finished second behind Chris Froome . At the Tour de France 2017 he won the twelfth stage from Pau to Peyragudes , which ended in an extremely steep mountain finish and was third in the overall standings.
In 2018 he was beaten in the road race of Alejandro Valverde at the World Championships in Innsbruck in the sprint of a four-man leading group that had formed on the last climb and won silver.
