Tour de l'Avenir

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tour de l'Avenir (French, German about "Tour of the Future", 1970: Grand Prix de l'Avenir , 1972–1978 Trophée Peugeot de l'Avenir , 1986–1990 Tour de la Communauté Européenne ) is a stage race for cyclists in France .

The road bike race , which was held for the first time in 1961, was initially considered to be the " Tour de France for amateurs ". The " Open " race was held from 1981 so that professionals were also allowed to take part. With the introduction of the standard license in 2005, the race was reserved for young drivers, mostly in the U23 age group.

In 1992 the Amaury Sport Organization (ASO) took over the organization. Professionals and amateurs under the age of 25 were allowed to participate. The race has been part of the UCI Under 23 Nations Cup series since 2007 . Starting in 2012, the World Cycling Federation UCI will use the race to train competition judges ("commissioners"), radio tour speakers, information motorcyclists and other people who are involved in the organization of cycling races . With the staging of 2012 , the organization of the Tour de l' Avenir will be transferred to Alpe Vélo , the host of the Tour de l'Ain race . The race is still financially and logistically supported by the ASO .
