Joseba Beloki Dorronsoro (born August 12, 1973 in Lazkao ) is a former Spanish cyclist .

He started his professional career in 1998 in the Basque racing team Euskadi . In 2000 he got a contract with Festina and finished 3rd in the Tour de France . Since then he has been one of the best racers in the world and finished third again in the ONCE jersey ( 2001 ) and even second ( 2002 , even de facto first due to the subsequent tour exclusion of Lance Armstrong , although the winner position was expressly not filled) the Tour de France . He was also third in the Vuelta a España in 2002 and won the Tour of Catalonia in 2001 .

On the 9th stage of the Tour de France 2003 , Beloki fell on a descent by loosening his glued tire from the rim of the rear wheel and broke his thigh neck. Thereupon he fell into a deep form and changed teams several times without success. From 2005 he drove for the Spanish team Liberty Seguros , whose sporting director Manolo Saiz, however, was arrested in May 2006 for acquiring doping substances. The sponsor Liberty then jumped off, the team was closed. As part of the doping scandal in 2006 , he was banned from the Tour de France the day before the start. After that, Beloki ended his active career.
