The federal highway 251 (abbreviation: B 251 ) is an approximately 95 km long German federal highway . It leads from Brilon in North Rhine-Westphalia to Hesse and there, for example, through Willingen and Korbach to Kassel .

course

The B 251 starts on the Briloner plateau about 2.4 km northeast of the center of the main town of North-Rhine Westphalia in Hochsauerlandkreis located Brilon . It branches off a few meters south of the Egger plant and immediately northeast of the four lime trees at the Egger roundabout from the B 7, which runs there in a west-east direction, at around 415  m above sea level. NHN towards the south.

Initially, the B 251 leads slightly uphill to a little more than 500  m and then past Gudenhagen-Petersborn , crossing under the Almetalbahn , down into the valley of the Diemel tributary Hoppecke , in which it goes upstream through Brilon Forest ( 446.5  m ) runs. There it changes - after bridging the Upper Ruhr Valley Railway (at the east-north-east portal of the Elleringhäuser Tunnel ) and the Wabern – Brilon Wald railway line (in the Korbach – Brilon Wald Upland Railway section that runs along the road now and then ) - from the western to the eastern River side. From the Hoppeckebrücke it runs in the Diemelsee Nature Park .

On the other side of the Hessian border, the B 251 in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district continues within the Upland through the Diemelsee Nature Park and through the central town of Willingen ( 550  m ) located on the Hoppecke and Itter tributaries of the Diemel . There it reaches a height of 548.1  m near the train station and passes under the Uplandbahn under the Willinger Viaduct near the exit of the town with the Itter . Then the road leads north-east past the district of Stryck ( 592  m ), which is also on the Itter. After that, it reaches its greatest height above sea level at 639.5  m . From now on, the road runs eastwards through Usseln ( 611  m ) located on the Diemel and crossed by the road, crossing the Uplandbahn in front of the village and then under it. Then it leads along the Neerdar through the Willingen villages Neerdar (approx.  470  m ) and Bömighausen (approx.  450  m ).

Further east B 251 extends through the Korbacher villages Rhena ( 440  m ), the most of their crossed Neerdar inflow Rhena is located, and Lelbach ( 425  m ). After leaving the Diemelsee Nature Park and after crossing the Itter tributary Kuhbach , the Warburg – Sarnau railway line and the Uplandbahn, it leads along the Waldecker Tafel - laid out as a bypass road together with the B 252 - north and east of the city center of Korbach ( 384  m ) past.

Branching off the B 252, the B 251 runs beyond Korbach - after crossing the Ederseebahn cycle path (formerly Ederseebahn ) - through the Korbach village of Meineringhausen ( 323  m ) and then curvy through the Bachtal of the Werbe that it crosses , a tributary of the approx Edersee , 5 km southeast of this stream crossing .

After crossing under the Ederseebahn cycle path and passing Sachsenhausen ( 369  m ), a district of Waldeck , to the north , the B 251 runs close to the summit over the southern slope of the Stirn ( 475  m ) elevation . Then it leads north-eastwards at a maximum height of around 460  m in the Long Forest to and through the rural Waldecker district of Freienhagen (approx.  400  m ), which lies near the source on the Watter . After crossing this southern Twiste tributary, it leads a piece along the Georgengraben (small tributary of the Elbe, which strives towards the Eder ), past the Höhnscheid Castle (approx.  360  m ) and reaches the Habichtswald Nature Park . There it runs through the village Wolfhagen district of Ippinghausen (approx.  320  m ) north of the Weidelsberg ( 492.3  m ; location of the Weidelsburg ruins ), where it crosses the Elbe twice. A little further to the northeast, it passes the Rauen Steine ( 366.4  m ), which is just 450 m north of the road , and then - beyond the Long Forest - in the Istha plain through the Wolfhagen village of Bründersen (approx.  310  m ) and over the Erpe tributary To lead mill water .

Then the B 251 leads south of the massive Isthaberg ( 523.1  m ) as a bypass road south around the Wolfhagen village of Istha ( 333  m ) and then as such north past the village district of Zierenberg Oelshausen ( 335  m ), which is crossed by the road Twiste tributary Erpe is located. Then it crosses in the Habichtswälder Bergland - after passing the Zierenberg village of Burghasungen (approx.  410  m ) on Burghasunger Berg ( 479.7  m ) - a few meters after a 388  m high road section, the federal motorway 44 at the Zierenberg junction . Shortly afterwards, the road leads through the Habichtswald villages of Ehlen (approx.  330  m ), which lies on the Warme tributary that it crosses , and Dörnberg (approx.  350  m ), which extends south of the Hohe Dörnberg ( 578.7  m ) Laubach (Unterlauf: Lubach ) is located in the village crossed by the road ; henceforth the street is called Wolfhager Straße until its end point .

Then the B 251 leads through the Dörnberg Pass , a sub-unit of the natural area Dörnberg and Schreckenberge , and in a curve ( 393.8  m ) near a gravel plant it reaches the northeast part of the Hohen Habichtswald . Therein it proceeds - after a switchback in a further narrow the curve Fulda influx ancestor bridging ( 336.5  m ) - curvaceous by forested areas of Harleshausen , the north-western district of the urban Kassel . After crossing the Rasenallee ( 291.6  m ), leaving the Habichtswald Nature Park and bridging the Geilebach Ahne tributary , it leads through built-up areas of Harleshausen and there on a bridge ( 201  m ) at Harleshausen station over the Harleshausen curve section of the Kassel – Warburg railway line . Then the street runs through the northeast corner of the Kirchditmold district . Subsequently, it passes under - a few meters above a to 172.2  m lying height street location - many railway bridges (three bridges) on which parts of the Kassel DB - marshalling yard lie and inter alia, the high-speed line Hannover-Kassel-Würzburg runs.

This is followed by the Kassel district of Rothenditmold , which the B 251 leaves after the last of two crossings of the Döllbach ( called Geilebach in the upper reaches ) on the bridge over the Mombachstrasse , where it crosses the rail connection to the lower city station . About 1000 meters east-southeast of it, the street ends on the border between the districts of North Holland and Wesertor opposite the University of Kassel at Holländischer Platz ( 146.9  m ); Wolfhager Straße (B 251), Holländische Straße ( B 7 and B 83 ), Kurt-Wolters-Straße (B 7 and B 83) and Untere Königsstraße meet at the intersection near the city center ( Mitte district ) .

From the end of the B 251 (Holländischer Platz) , the Kurt-Wolters-Straße as well as the Schützen- (B 7 and B 83) and Scharnhorststraße , which crosses the Fulda on the harbor bridge, lead to the intersection at the former small roundabout . Then the four-lane Dresdener Straße (L 3237) runs east to the Kassel-Nord junction ( 173.3  m ) of the A 7 between Kassel Bettenhausen and Niestetal- Heiligenrode and south-south-west on Dresdener Straße (B 7 and B 83) - via the Platz der Deutschen Einheit ( large roundabout ; 137.2  m ) - and on Nürnberger Straße (B 83) to the Kassel- Waldau junction (approx.  140  m ) of the A 49 in Kassel-Waldau .
