The Dutch court is a court in Kassel .
geography
Surname
The name of the square originally goes back to the name of the city gate leading from the old town, the Dutch Gate . With the mining industry since the 19th century, the development at this point changed from the landgrave-sponsored residence to the up-and-coming city.
Location and surroundings
It is located at the end of Untere Königsstraße and from there opens the further course of the Holländische Straße to the north.
traffic
Untere Königsstraße, Wolfhager Straße ( B 251 ), Holländische Straße and Kurt-Wolters-Straße (both B 7 and B 83 ) meet at Holländischer Platz . There is a bus and tram stop called "Holländischer Platz / Universität"
history
Until the end of 1972, the Henschel-Werke had their main plant in Kassel Holländischer Platz at this point . The area bordering the course of today's Kurt-Wolters-Straße leading to the east was later used as a location for the Kassel University and today's university; the old buildings on the factory premises were demolished. The immediate proximity of the industrial enterprise from the locomotive, machine and wagon construction was formative for the Kassel population.
Originally, a siding built in 1872 led from the Henschel plant across the square along Wolfhager Strasse to the Unterstadtbahnhof. This was shut down after 1962 due to the redesign of Holländischer Platz.
Space design
The function as a traffic junction is dominant. Streets with multiple lanes meet at the traffic light-controlled intersection. The tram route to Vellmar runs along Untere Königsstraße and further on Holländische Straße .
Development on the edge of the square
Northeast side
On the north side of the square is the Holländischer Platz campus of the University of Kassel. The former administration building of the company Henschel und Sohn is located directly on Holländischer Platz . To the east is the engineering sciences building of the university. It was built between 1988 and 1995 and is about 165 meters long and also serves as a noise protection. With 9,300 square meters of main usable area, it is the largest building at the University of Kassel to date. Previously, the Henschel factory hall K 42 stood at this point.
Southeast side
The actual gate to the former old town, today's horse market on the south-east side, has recently been shaped by a postmodernist tracing, implemented in a functionalized panel construction of a building complex from the 1990s. It hides the actual problem area of the Bremer Straße running behind it, in the course of which the historical lines of the city can be better recognized and rediscovered. Further south on Untere Königsstrasse is the Stern-Hochhaus , the tallest high-rise in Kassel
Southwest side
A reconstruction ensemble with an eaves gable roof of the Bauverein 1894 zu Kassel connects to the southwest . Further south is the new main post office (opened in 1975), a brutalist building block with a recessed base. Documenta 14 exhibition rooms were located in the back of the main post office .
