Stryck is a locality of the district Willingen of the municipality Willingen (Upland) (in the part of the Sauerland belonging to Hesse ) in the district Waldeck-Frankenberg .

Stryck, in which about 100 inhabitants live, is internationally known for the World Cup ski jumping that takes place annually on the Mühlenkopfschanze .

Geographical location

Stryck is located just under two kilometers (as the crow flies) south-southeast of the center of Willingen in the Itter Valley (south-western tributary of the Diemel ) at heights between 590 and 630  m above sea level. NHN . The mountains around the village are all over 700  m high; the highest mountain is the Ettelsberg ( 837.7  m ) to the west, the Mühlenkopf (approx.  815  m ) with the Mühlenkopfschanze rises to the southwest . To the north of Stryck, in the transition area to Willingen, lies the Stryckteich, which is passed east of the Itter.

The federal road 251 runs north of the district of Stryck and leads from Brilon via Willingen and Korbach to Kassel .

The Brilon-Korbach Uplandbahn runs parallel to the main road near Stryck . The next train stations are in Willingen and Usseln . Stryck also has its own stopping point, which is only served on the occasion of the annual World Cup ski jumping event at Mühlenkopfschanze.

Stryck is a holiday resort that is visited by both summer guests and mainly winter sports enthusiasts. Numerous overnight accommodations in hotels, inns and guesthouses are available to guests.

About 400 m south of the center of Stryck is the Mühlenkopfschanze, currently the largest large hill in the world. The FIS World Cup ski jumping takes place here every year with a large number of spectators.
