The mill head at Stryck in the Upland is about 815  m above sea level. NHN high elevation of the Rothaargebirge in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg ( Germany ).

The Mühlenkopf is located in the northeast part of the Rothaargebirge in the Diemelsee Nature Park . Its summit rises about 2.5 km south of the center of Willingen and 1.5 km (as the crow flies ) southwest of the Willingen district of Stryck . It is a northeastern pioneer of the Hegekopf ( 842.9  m ) and a south-southeast of the Ettelsberg ( 837.7  m ). The Diemel tributary Itter flows east past the wooded elevation . Between Mühlen- and Hegekopf, several hiking trails and paths radiate together on a 798  m high crossroads at the "Großer Grube".

Natural allocation

The Mühlenkopf belongs to the natural space main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33) in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Winterberger Hochland (333.5) to the natural area Langenberg (333.58). The landscape falls to the northeast into the natural area Inner Upland (333.90) belonging to the sub-unit Upland (333.9) .

Protected areas

On the eastern flank of the Mühlenkopf lies the Grebensteine nature reserve near Willingen ( CDDA no. 163314; designated 1985; 12  hectares in size). To the south and southeast, the landscape falls into the NSG Alter Hagen near Willingen (CDDA no. 162112; 1989; 1.43  km² ). To the south and east it falls into the fauna-flora-habitat area nature reserve complex near Willingen (FFH no. 4717-301; 1.82 km²).

Mühlenkopfschanze

On the northeast slope of the Mühlenkopf, southwest of Stryck, at an altitude of about 700  m, is the Mühlenkopfschanze , a category K 130 ski jump , which is currently the largest large hill in the world . Numerous international competitions have already been held there.

Traffic and walking

Almost 2 km (as the crow flies) northeast of the Mühlenkopf summit runs in the Willingen – Stryck– Wakenfeld - Usseln section of the federal road 251 , at which there are two large parking spaces for hikers near a street point at 609.8  m . From there, the Mühlenkopf can be reached via Stryck and past the Mühlenkopfschanze, where there is another parking lot. To the east, the Uplandweg and the Upland-Weserbergland-Weg run along the Itter.
