The Ederseebahn cycle path is a 26.139 km long cycle path on the route of the former Ederseebahn (part of the Wabern – Brilon-Wald railway line, which is still in operation in sections ) in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district , North Hesse ( Germany ), which was laid out from 2008 to 2012. Belonging to the cycle paths on disused railway lines , it runs in the West Hessian mountain and depression country from Korbach to Buhlen .

geography

course

The cycle path begins on the southern outskirts of Korbach on Wildunger Landstrasse ( ; approx.  375  m above sea  level ), which leads out of town to federal highways 251 and 252 . Initially, it leads eastwards, first the B 252 and then in the Meineringhäuser Tunnel (75.2 m long) crossing under the B 251, on the Korbach plain directly north past Meineringhausen (Ex- Bf ) and then, after crossing the Werbe , north-eastwards Höringhausen (Ex-Bf), where the cycle path is U-shaped and bends towards the south. Then it leads, passing the Hof Heide (with restaurant), over the B 251 and in the Sachsenhausen tunnel (65.4 m) crossing under the B 485 to Sachsenhausen (ex-Bf). Then it runs in the Sachsenhausen hill country south past Selbach (Ex-Bf), where it crosses the Reiherbach on the Selbacher Viaduct ( Reiherbachbrücke ; 193 m).

After this, the cycle path runs through Netze (Ex-Bf) in the Netzehügelland and there on the Netzer Viaduct over the state road  3215 (Netze– Naumburg ). After crossing the B 485, it leads through Waldeck -Ost (Ex-Bf) and then to Buhlen . Shortly afterwards, the cycle path ends next to the former train station, which is a little south of Buhlen , at Kreisstraße  34 ( ; approx.  250  m above sea level ), which connects Buhlen with Affoldern (both districts of Edertal). This road connects to the Ederradweg and the Hessian long-distance cycle path R6 in the south .

Transport links

The Ederseebahn cycle path is connected to the North Hessian transport system in a variety of ways within the framework of subsequent cycle paths, railway lines, roads and hiking trails :

There is a connection to the Hessian long-distance cycle paths R5 ( North Hesse route Eder - Fulda - Werra ), which can be accessed in Korbach and in the Wegaer Ederaue , and R6 ( Waldecker Land - Rheintal ), which is in the area between the Wegaer Ederaue and Selbach can be visited.

In addition, there is a connection at the beginning and at the end of the cycle path to a section of the Wabern – Brilon-Wald railway line that is still in service , to which the Ederseebahn belonged, and to its connecting railway lines .

The cycle path also crosses or crosses the following federal highways and is partly accompanied or affected by them: 251 and 252 , 253 and 485 . District and state roads branching off from these intersect in many places.

In some places, the cycle path connects to crossing or nearby hiking trails , including: Ederseeweg , Diemel-Eder-Weg , Herkulesweg , Kellerwaldsteig , student path and Urwaldsteig Edersee .

Buildings

The cycle path leads through the Meineringhausen Tunnel (75.2 m long), through the Sachsenhausen Tunnel (65.4 m), over the Selbach Viaduct ( Reiherbach Bridge ; 193 m), over the Netzer Viaduct and over numerous other bridges and creek passages and under road and field bridges (sometimes also crossing) through.

history

The project was initiated (for example applying for funding) through the city of Korbach. The communities of Waldeck and Edertal are also involved in the project. These three project partners also agreed on the name Ederseebahn-Radweg .

The project began in 2007 with the renovation of individual bridge structures. In the spring of 2008 the rails were removed. The cycle path was realized in 7 construction phases:

  • 1st construction phase: Korbach (start of the route) → Meineringhausen (crossing K  16); Length 4.134 km; Start of construction July 25, 2008; Section released in October 2008
  • 2nd construction phase: Meineringhausen (crossing K 16) → Höringhausen (crossing K 14); Length 4.009 km; Approved in mid-2009
  • 3.1 Construction phase: Höringhausen (crossing K 14) → Hof Heide : length 1.938 km
  • 3.2 Construction phase: Hof Heide → Sachsenhausen ( L  3200 crossing ); Length 2.747 km; Approval by Höringhausen in June 2009
  • 4.1 Construction phase: Sachsenhausen (crossing L 3200) → Bridge on L 3083 near Ex-Netze station; Length 5.886 km; Released in summer 2011
  • 4.2 Construction phase: Bridge on L 3083 near Ex-Netze station → Crossing L 3083 near Ex-Waldeck station; Length 4.245 km
  • 5th construction phase: L 3083 crossing near the former Waldeck station → end of the route at K 34 near Buhlen; Length 3.071 km; completed since summer 2011

The entire cycle path from Buhlen to Korbach has been accessible since around mid-September 2012. The cycle path was officially opened on April 21, 2013.

building-costs
