The Reiherbach , called Selbach in the upper reaches , is an 8.4 km long northern tributary of the Edersee in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg .

Before the Edertalsperre was built, the Reiherbach was an orographically left or northeastern tributary of the Eder tributary Werbe, which also flows into the Edersee .

course

The Reiherbach rises 1.75 km south of Freienhagen , a northern district of Waldeck , in the Langen Wald around 500 m northwest of the Heitzelberg ( 467.4  m above sea  level ). On its wooded flank, the spring is located in the "Kirchgrund" at around 390  m above sea level. NN .

Initially, the brook flows south to and through the smallest district of Waldeck, Selbach , with the former Friedrichsthal hunting lodge . The “Vogelgraben” flows into the village from the west.

Approximately 650 m (as the crow flies ) southeast or below Selbach, the Reiherbach is crossed by the 193 m long and 28 m high Selbach Viaduct , the so-called Reiherbach Bridge, at creek km 5.3 between the Waldecker districts of Netze in the southeast and Sachsenhausen in the west . This is part of the decommissioned Ederseebahn , which was converted into the Ederseebahn cycle path in the Korbach - Buhlen section . Afterwards, the B 485 runs over the stream between the last-mentioned places at Bach kilometer 4.9 .

Then the Reiherbach runs to the southwest through the hamlet of Waldeck "In der Reiherbach" ( 299  m above sea level ) and then through a narrow, forest-lined valley, at the exit of which the Klingebach flows from the northwest or Sachsenhausen .

At the end of the valley, the stream reaches the Nieder-Werbe district of Waldeck , which lies on the northern border of the Kellerwald-Edersee nature park . The Reiherbach flows into the village at around 245  m above sea level. NN in the larger of two neighboring Edersee pre- basins .

Watershed

The source of the Reiherbach is located near the Diemel-Eder / Fulda / Weser watershed : the water of the Reiherbach, which flows roughly to the southwest, drains from the Edersee to the east and northeast via Eder and Fulda into the Weser , while the one north of the Heitzelberg is near Watter, which rises on the southern outskirts of Freienhagen, initially flows northwards and then over the Twiste and Diemel to the northeast into the Weser.

Catchment area and tributaries

The tributaries of the Reiherbach, whose catchment area covers 27.322 km², include downstream (with the length of the river and its mouth with the Reiherbach kilometers ):
