The Mühlenwasser is a 11.25 km long, southern and orographically left tributary of the Erpe in the urban area of Wolfhagen in the Hessian district of Kassel .

course

The mill water flows entirely in the Habichtswald Nature Park in North Hesse . It rises south of Istha , the southeastern part of Wolfhagen . Its headwaters are located in meadows and arable land around 620 m (as the crow flies ) northwest of the confluence of state road  3215 (formerly federal road 520 ) with the B 450 leading from Istha in the north to Balhorn (part of the municipality of Bad Emstal ) in the south at around 345  m above sea level . NHN .

The mill water initially flows in a west-north-westerly direction through heavily agricultural land to the south-west and west of the massive Isthaberg and, after the B 251 crosses, runs north past Bründersen , a southern Wolfhag district. After crossing under the Kreisstraße  107, over which a section of the German Fairy Tale Route leads, it passes the Todenhausen desert and flows through a nature reserve with water containers . A little further west, after passing the desert of Gran, east of the small Wolfhagen settlement Granfeld , the stream flows around Graner Berg , on which the Wolfhagen-Graner Berg airfield is located.

A little further north, immediately southwest of the former Wolfhagen Castle , the mill water on the left side picks up the "Fredegassen Born" brook coming from the deserted Fridegossen in the southwest and then flows through the Wolfhagen core town. In it it happens when flowing through the city park, in which the Limeckebach flows on the right side , the Wolfhagen Castle and the eastern city center with numerous half-timbered houses and the Kattenturm. To the northeast of the village, which the brook leaves a little after crossing under the B 450 and the Volkmarsen – Vellmar-Obervellmar railway line , it first passes the municipal sewage treatment plant and then the Kalkhofsmühle after the Dusebach flows into it on the left.

About 2.2 km (as the crow flies) northeast of Wolfhagen city center , the Mühlenwasser flows directly southwest of the Schützeberg in the east at an altitude of 235  m into Erpe , which comes from the east- southeast , a tributary of the Twiste , a little northwest of which passes the Elmarshausen belonging to Wolfhagen .

Catchment area and tributaries

The largest tributaries of the mill water, the catchment area of which is 54.27 km², are the Dusebach and Limeckebach brooks in the Wolfhager area .

Watershed

The source area of the mill water lies on the Diemel-Eder / Fulda / Weser watershed , which means that the mill water that flows in a northerly direction drains into the Weser through the Erpe , Twiste and Diemel , while the Spolebach , which is a little further south-east rises near the Wattenberg north of Balhorn (to Bad Emstal), makes a longer path through the Elbe , Eder and Fulda to the Weser.

Sights and cultural buildings

The sights and cultural buildings on and near the Mühlenwasser include the Habichtswald Nature Park , the remains of Wolfhagen Castle , the Elmarshausen moated castle , the Ofenberg tower and the Schützeberg .
