To the northwest of the mountain is the Ofenberg ( 372.5  m ) with the Ofenberg Tower . To the north-north-west, the unforested Helfenberg ( 366.2  m ) with the Helfenberg castle ruins joins as the northern foothills of the mountain .

Remains of the beacon tower foundation

Remnants of the foundation of the Isthaberg light tower

At the top of the Isthabergs was in the German Empire to the Nazi period in July 1934 by the German Lufthansa a beacon built tower for the kingdom of air traffic control. During the Second World War (1939 to 1945), the 19 m high tower was used by the Wehrmacht at a time when there was no radio-supported flight navigation . The tower, whose construction was similar to that of today's metal high-voltage pylons, was demolished in late 1954 or early 1955. The only remaining foundation is the concrete slab now between beeches, tree-lined and overgrown by scrub, on which the tower stood; it is popularly known as the “Platte auf dem Isthaberg” .
