Istha is a district of the city of Wolfhagen in the northern Hessian district of Kassel .

Geographical location

Istha is located in the center of the Habichtswald Nature Park, around 4.8 km (as the crow flies ) southeast of the Wolfhagen core city. It is located south of the Isthaberg ( 523.1  m above sea  level ) on the Istha plain , a plateau as part of the watershed of Diemel and Eder . The Limeckebach flows through the 333  m high village . To the west, south and east around the village, the federal highway 251 runs as a bypass road , which shares a section with the federal highway 450 there .

history

The first settlement probably took place before the 4th century; the discovery of a menhir , which is now in the Heimatmuseum in Wolfhagen, indicates that Istha is a very old settlement.

In 1123 Istha is mentioned for the first time as "Isede" (also "Isiede") in the files of the Hasungen monastery . In the same year, an Adelbarth de Isede is mentioned, apparently a member of a local noble family who named themselves after the place. 1180 the place is called "Isithe", 1253 as "Iste" and 1258 as "Hyste" (later the place is also called "Yste"). The village belonged to the Vogtei and the Wolfhagen office and ecclesiastically to the archpriest church “St. Petri zu Schützeberg ”on the Schützeberg , one of the nine deanery churches of the Fritzlar Propstei . In 1253 Istha was wholly owned by Hasungen Monastery. In 1376, a quarter of the village pledged by the Hessian landgraves to Herbold von Mederich was redeemed by Hasungen Monastery, a quarter by the Lords of Helmern (this part went to the Lords of Hertingshausen in 1386) and half by those of Schartenberg. From 1437 to 1448 Istha was a Hessian fiefdom of Reinhard von Dalwigk and Friedrich IV. Von Hertingshausen .

On December 31, 1971, the previously independent municipality of Istha was incorporated into the city of Wolfhagen.

On June 2, 2019, the Kassel District President Walter Lübcke , who lived in Istha, was the victim of a right-wing terrorist murder there .

church

The village church is a baroque hall church with a Romanesque tower, the origin of which goes back to the establishment of the village. 1743–1747 the nave was built in its current size under pastor Johann Philipp Bockewitz (1740–1748 pastor in Istha). At the end of the church renovation carried out between 1997 and 2000, the east window behind the window was artistically glazed by Anna Pauli.
