history

Viesebeck village square
Elmarshäuser Strasse

At the beginning of the 12th century the place was first mentioned in a document as Visbike, which is located on an old former military road . The church, renovated in 1740 - with a square east tower (medieval choir tower with nave) - is a landmark of the place.

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , Viesebeck became a district of Wolfhagen on February 1, 1971.

As part of the village renewal program , a playground and a bowling alley were built in cooperation from 1992 to 2002 and the village square was redesigned. A natural rock with a bronze figure set up on the church forecourt is reminiscent of a biblical story: "The people of Israel during their wandering through the desert on the Haderwasser (4. Moses 20, 2–13)".

The Protestant parish belonging to Viesebeck belongs to the parish Ehringen with the Evangelical parish Ehringen. The window in the choir of the Protestant church shows the sinking Peter who is saved by Jesus. It was donated by the two brothers Heinrich and Anton Bruchhäuser, who emigrated to America, "in memory of our parents resting in God ... and in grateful love for their old homeland" in 1914 and made by the Marburg glass painting workshop KJ Schultz Söhne. For the 100th anniversary of the window, descendants of the emigrants living in New York today visited Viesebeck as the place of origin of their ancestors.

In 1701 the shooting club was founded, which celebrates the " Schützen - und Britzefest" at Pentecost (since 2002 it has been celebrated every 2 years).

  • Vissebeck (1234) (Waldeck Archive, Aroldessen Monastery );

Water art

The "old water art " from the Middle Ages was also renovated. The water wheel originally pumped the water into an elevated tank built in 1911, thus ensuring the town's water supply. Today it feeds a small fountain in the village square by the church.
