The Wattenberg is 516.2  m above sea level. NHN is the central, but not the highest elevation of the Hinterhabichtswälder peaks in the west of the Habichtswälder mountain range from south to north , near Martinhagen in the north Hessian district of Kassel .

Geographical location

The Wattenberg is located in the extreme southwest of the Zierenberg district , just under 3 km south of the Burghasungen district , 2 km south-southeast of the Oelshausen district , around 3 km east -south- east of Wolfhagen - Istha and around 1 km northwest of Schauenburg - Martinhagen . The majority of the mountain with its summit belongs to the district of the town of Zierenberg, its east and south flanks to that of the community of Schauenburg. The north-northeast neighbor in the Wattenberg massif is the Hundsberg ( 496  m ), 1.4 km away .

The forest area of the Wattenberg massif is divided in the northeast by the route of the A 44 , to the east by the upper reaches of the Warme , to the south by the former B 520 (today L 3215) west of Martinhagen, to the southwest by the B 450 south of Isthas and to the northwest by the B 251 between Istha and Burghasungen is relatively sharply demarcated.

Natural allocation

The Wattenberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group West Hessian mountain and sink country (No. 34) and in the main unit Habichtswälder Bergland (342) to the Hinterhabichtswälder Kuppen (342.2). To the north this subunit continues to Burghasunger Berg . To the east and south-east, the landscape falls into the natural area of Breitenbacher Mulde (342.10), which, with the upper reaches of the Warmth near the source, is part of the Habichtswälder Basin sub-unit (342.1). In the south-southwest the back hawk forests continue to the Remmenhausen head . To the west, the landscape falls into the natural area of Istha Ebene (341.34), which belongs to the Wolfhager Hügelland subunit (341.3).

Streams and watershed

First, the Wattenberg is located on the running in east-west direction Diemel - Eder -Wasserscheide, part of the Diemel-Eder / Fulda / Weser watershed . In addition, however, the peaks adjoining Diemel to the north represent the main section of the watershed between Twiste (west) and Warme (east), while Eder internally the summit Remmenhausener Kopf on the watershed between Elbe (west) and Ems (east) lies. Therefore, four river systems are fed from the slopes of the Wattenberg:

  • The Erpe rises on the western slope and drains north-west via the Twiste to the Diemel,
  • on the eastern slope is the source of the southern Diemel tributary warm ,
  • The Ems and the river Eder, which flows southeast of the Eder, have their source on the southeast slope
  • on the outer western slope lies the source of the Spolebach , which drains over the Elbe to the south-southeast to the Eder.
