The Itter is a 11.6 km long, northern and orographically left tributary of the Edersee or the Eder in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in northern Hesse ( Germany ). It flows through the area of the former medieval Ittergau, named after it .

course

The Itter rises west of Ober-Ense , a south-south-west district of Korbach . Their source is about 390  m above sea level. NHN south of Wiperich ( 423.3  m ), a south-southeastern neighbor of the Eisenberg (approx.  562  m ).

The Itter initially flows in an easterly direction via Ober- to Nieder-Ense , where the small Alte Itter joins on the right. The Marbeck flows in from the north below the village , after which the Itter runs through Dorfitter . Then it absorbs the water of the Kuhbach coming from the north in the direction of Korbach . It then flows south through a deeply cut valley in sections. Below Thalitter , a district of Vöhl , flows above the Scheuermühle from the west to the Wennebach , which has previously taken up the Lingenscheid tributary .

Finally, the Itter reaches the Vöhler district of Herzhausen , where it flows into the Eder from the left at the north-western border of the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park at an altitude of about 245  m at its inlet into the western end of the Edersee .

Catchment area and tributaries

The tributaries of the Itter, whose catchment area covers 76.131 km², include the Alte Itter , the Marbeck , the Kuhbach and the tributary of Lingenscheid .
