history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1036. The local church, which was built between 1130 and 1140, is dedicated to the Apostle Peter , it houses a baroque altar made around 1700 by Josias Wolrat Brützel and the grave of Anna von Viermund . The neighboring villages of Ober-Ense , Nordenbeck and Goldhausen also belong to the parish of Nieder-Ense today . The former trade route ran through the village from Frankfurt via Paderborn to Bremen .

There is also the so-called “Frau-Holle-Felsen”, this is located southeast of Nieder-Ense and can be reached via the “Am Katergraben” path. The rock in a sparse beech forest was formed around 200 million years ago. According to legend, this is where Frau Holle's winter quarters are located.

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Nieder-Ense was incorporated into the city of Korbach on December 31, 1970, together with Nordenbeck and Ober-Ense on a voluntary basis . The municipality of Nieder-Ense had a district area of 6.33 km².
